How to prepare for your Bridals

Updated: Feb 8, 2023

BRIDALS

known as a Southern tradition where the bride

takes a day either before or after her wedding

to have a portrait session done of herself in her wedding attire.

There are many different reasons as to why a bride will choose to take Bridals. For some, maybe this is a way to gift her parents with a portrait of their baby girl.

For others, it may be a chance to make use of their gorgeous dress more than once.

From hair and makeup down to their shoes, Bridals are perfect for a gorgeous bride to shine and bask in the glory of her beauty.

Now that you know what bridals are and why brides choose to do them, you can decide whether you want a session done.

If you choose to do so, believe it or not, there are ways of preparing for your Bridal session.

Here are some tips to help you so you can rest assure you have one of the best photo sessions with your photographer 👇🏼

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR BRIDALS:

1. When purchasing your dress, do keep in mind the date of arrival and possible alterations of your dress

Whether you are about to purchase your dress or already have, it is wise to be mindful of the date your dress will come in plus the timeframe of any alterations that will need to be done. By knowing an estimated timeframe will you plan your Bridals with your photographer a lot better.

2. Speak with your photographer about your vision for your photos including location and time of year

Communicating with your photographer about your wants and expectations of your Bridals will help in ensuring both you and your photographer are well prepared for your bridals. As I have always said, "Good Communication is KEY!"

3. Schedule your Hair and Makeup trial with a professional to ensure you look your best for your Bridals

Following my philosophy of always advising my clients to book professional vendors, if you already have your hair and makeup artist/stylist or are going to be booking them soon, schedule to have your trials done for your bridals. As I have said before, you kill two birds with one stone.

If you don't have a Hair and Makeup Artist yet, I work with two amazing professionals,

• Professional Makeup Artist: Makeup by Michelle Murphey

• Professional Hair Stylist: Hair by Jenn

Accept the fact that your dress will get dirty during your bridals

I'm just gonna say it, Unfortunately, the bottom of your dress will more than likely get a little dirty. Whether you're having your bridals done inside or outside, you're wearing it which means it's bound to happen. If you're really worried about it getting a little dingy, plan to send it to get cleaned before your wedding. If you're having your bridals done after your wedding, then it probably won't bother you as much.

Speak with your photographer about doing your bridals after your wedding if you don't have enough time before

Bridals do NOT have to be done before your wedding as most people seem to think. At least when it comes to me, I don't mind at all if you want to have your bridal session after your wedding. In my opinion, we are able to do so much more as far as being creative because at this point, most brides won't care anymore when it comes to the dress.

Eat a meal before your session and make sure to bring snacks and water with you.

Believe it or not, some brides get caught up in the day (even on your photographer session day) that they forget to eat. Just as it goes on your wedding day, this is a big NO NO. Making sure you are well nourished and hydrated will help with having a great experience during your bridals. Even bringing snacks and water along with you will really help out too.

Bringing someone along with you to help assist you during your bridal session will help in ensuring a smooth and easy process.

Whether your photographer brings an assistant or not, having someone you know such as a friend or Bridesmaid along with you during your bridals will help keep you calm and comfortable and also help in carrying, holding, and helping you during your session.

Taking all of these things into consideration when planning your bridal session will benefit you in having the best bridal session! After all, it's always best to be well prepared for anything.
